Overview

Antonio Permuy is a fine art curator, critic, collector, and patron. Much of his work is focused on exploring the legacy of artists, artworks, and cultural-historical context of the subjects he curates and analyzes.

With deep roots in the fine arts world, Permuy has curated exhibitions of Contemporary American, European, and Latin American art. His writings have been published internationally and have contributed to various institutional archives. Permuy’s career has been documented and featured in magazines, newspapers, radio, podcasts, public panel discussions, and Wikipedia.

Curation

Permuy has curated the work of over 100 artists. They include leading painters such as Wifredo LamRené PortocarreroJosigancioRafael Soriano, Juan Gonzalez and Baruj Salinas. He has also curated record-setting, historically-significant exhibitions, including international exhibitions affiliated with Art Basel and Miami Art Week.

Permuy has exhibited collections in collaboration with established museums and institutions including the Harn Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Arts of the Americas, and the Wilzig Museum Building.

Permuy has also lent his curatorial perspective to serve as a discussion panelist and an art competition judge, most recently for the 2025 Creative Arts Guild (CAG) annual fine arts competition.

Art Criticism

Permuy’s writings and analysis have been published in several magazines, newspapers, and websites, including the Brussels-based Contemporary Art Issue (CAI).

In documenting and analyzing art, culture, and history, his work has contributed to the institutional archives of the Vasari Project, the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, Hillsborough Community College, and Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library.

Patronage

As a third-generation fine art collector and patron, Permuy has donated more than 50 works from the Antonio Permuy Collection to multiple fine art museums and cultural/educational institutions. These include the Tampa Museum of Art, the Frost Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg.

In 2024, Permuy founded the Marta Permuy Legacy Collection within the Alvin Sherman Library and Research Technology Center, one of the largest libraries in the state of Florida. The collection was established in honor of his late grandmother, South Florida art pioneer Marta Permuy (1938–2017), and features artwork and files of twelve artists of Cuban, American, and European heritage.
